Llandybie welcomed third placed Furnace RFC for this 4B West league game.
The first quarter was even with Llandybie having the better of territory against their heavier opponents. Number 8 Ioan Rees completed a couple of turnovers and prop Rhys Cann carried well whilst second row Lloyd Thompson and prop Scott Jones put in some good tackles.
Llandybie had to make a number of changes in the back line again and were a little disjointed. Owain Armishaw and John Haines tackled strongly in the centre and half backs Steffan Jones and Jake Lewis were competitive. Furnace’s heavier pack were making the home side work hard and on twenty minutes broke away to score a converted try with their big centre coming from deep.
Llandybie had two chances with three on twos but took the ball into contact when it should have been put through hands. One break saw winger Rhys Jones unmarked but the pass to him was wild and high with the try line begging. Half time 7 -0 to the visitors.
In the second half an early attack saw Furnace cross the line but good defence held them up. Furnace kicked a penalty for not releasing to move further ahead. Llandybie made a number of changes due to injuries with the referee also in the wars with a pull in his shouldeer with Llandybie’s physio sorting him out. Full back Iestyn Richards was excellent under the high ball trying to run it back. Cellan Jenkins was tackling and carrying well and Owain James did well on the short throwins.
Hooker Dafydd Wyn Jones took a penalty from 60 yards with a strong wind behind just dropping under the crossbar. Llandybie were coming on strong with forwards and backs trying to get over the line but the visitors defence was unyielding and they broke away to score a late late try to close out the game.
Llandybie’s coaches were not unhappy at the loss because of the effort put in but annoyed that they did not put points on the board with the chances they had. Next week Llandybie are away to Tregaron. MOM for Llandybie was Cellan Jenkins.
