Pantyfynnon welcomed local rivals Llandybie for this 4B West fixture.

The visitors looked out of sorts from the start with Dwayne John scoring an early try for the hosts. Llandybie missed a penalty soon after whilst Pantyfynnon launched a series of attacks using their big forwards touching down for a converted try on 14 minutes. The visitors struggled in the scrum against the heavier pack and their tackling was unusually poor. The line out fared better with Dafydd Wyn Jones finding Connor Butler to feed scrum half Jake Lewis but the back play was not good enough to trouble the home defence.

Pantyfynnon’s attacks were finding holes in the visitors defence being well fed by scrum half Kieran Williams and they scored a further three converted tries to lead 33 – 0 at half time. Llandybie had a nightmare first half and weren’t at the races.

Llandybie brought on centre Rhys Evans and prop Rhys Cann and the effect was immediate. Cann stabilised the scrummage and Evans organised and galvanised the back line. Llandybie scored a try after five minutes of the second half, Dafydd Wyn Jones touching down. Keeping up the pressure the referree awarded a penalty try to the visitors for killing the ball in the ruck with Llandybie driving for the line. Another score arrived from good forward play, Luke Rampton touching down after 60 minutes. Pantyfynnon’s restarts were being run back at them with centre Evans pulling the strings with little chips over the defensive line ,with full back Iestyn Richards a willing chaser.

Carriers Josh Powell, Scott Jones, Ryan Davies and Cann were getting up a head of stream and prop Lloyd Thompson followed up some super drives to force his way over for Llandybie’s bonus point try converted by Jake Lewis with the score 33 – 24.

Pantyfynnon were looking worried with Llandybie creeping closer but a dropped pass and a good pick up saw Panty run the whole length of the field for a score. A killer blow for the visitors. Llandybie kept attacking to score a good try from Aiden Watts with the score 38 – 29. The visitors kept going but ran out of time. If only their kicks had gone over, missing three conversions and a penalty they could have nicked it at the end. A terrific second half but the poor show in the first forty minutes and the breakaway try was the killer. It’s not often a side scores five tries and loses. Next week Llandybie host Bynea RFC.
